about

The track is about how unsustainable individualistic culture is and the arrogance, shortsightedness and disconnection of people in power when it comes to the natural world. Ft some wise words from @amazonleo

From Oscar "I don’t think I’ve ever met someone as passionate about nature as Louis and its definitely something we have bonded over a lot. We started this track in an industrial estate in north London and finished it off appropriately by the Pacific Ocean in Mexico in-between some whale watching and cactus hugging."

Me and Oscar actually ended up finishing this together, sitting on a roof in Mexico of an Airbnb we’d rented in Puerto Escondido on the Oaxacan Coast. We sat there on my laptop and went through all the takes we had from London and made this as the sun set, between the palms and the sea in front of us, Orange all around us. I love the end section where the tracks builds to this head of Oscar harmonizing, it felt Euphoric almost, it felt like it reflected exactly the scene in front of us. I finished the song with a recording of my bredrin Leo Cerda, who’s indigenous Kichwa from the Amazon, and who I stayed with when I went to Amazon, describing a saying the Kichwa community say about when you forget your dreams you’re no longer human, and that’s why people are able to destroy the natural world because they forget they are part of it.

Hope u enjoy :)

lyrics

VERSE 1 – LOUIS VI
6 million streams now I want the ocean
Your music dry but my vibe is the lotion
Seems Money buys nothing but commotion
We all self conscious & Kanye didn’t solve things
Ain’t bought new clothes since ‘06
A Young London man so I struggle with emotions
magic gone so Uncle-Wray the potion
Gully gang rolling with no plan zoning
treat girls right, consensual the motive
Hum to Allah, while I thunder like it’s Odin
Yoga in the morning, naked girl looking golden,
The stretch she’s holding oh lord ‘n
No cash in my bank but the girls don’t notice
Throwing myself in the lane like I’m bowling
When you bouta rise a level but the screen loading
Tryna be a modern man
Lemme go in

CHORUS – OSCAR JEROME
The individual is unsustainable
‘Cause we’ve still got such a very long way to go
These words are so attainable
Why have we still got a very, very long way to go?
Who are the real criminals?
Let go of your so called power, let go, let go
You’re a needle in the ocean
Needle in the ocean

VERSE 2 – LOUIS VI
When life harder than harder,
Pierce your heart so I’m guarding my armour,
But my armour’s a Parka, and my Parka’s a part of,
a collection that ain’t deflecting life’s arrows are sharper.
Now tell me that ain’t hard ignore,
When you tryna climb higher and they answer with draw?
When you say you’re a survivor but they started the war?
Everybody got the key but don’t answer the door?
Ah lord
Yea they bore us, another glass they pour us, make our pockets porous celebrate and pretend it’s all for us
Distract you with chains and flashy stuff,
Don’t look for a bandage, you won’t get cut.
You can beat and beat on a wall but it won’t become a door,
It’s like reaching for the ceiling when your feet are on the floor,
Ah lord!
I’ve tried to holla, to no avail,
My post musta’ got lost in heavens mail,
I, see my friends taking substances, but they don’t know what substance is.
You could lie down, or choose to arise
I see these lies now, the truth I supply
So I never have to say…

The individual is unsustainable
‘Cause we’ve still got such a very long way to go
These words are so attainable
Why have we still got a very, very long way to go?
Who are the real criminals?
Let go of your so called power, let go, let go
You’re a needle in the ocean
Needle in the ocean
Needle in the ocean
Needle in the ocean

Needle in the ocean
Needle in the Ocean

Needle in the ocean
Needle in the Ocean
